There seems to be a resurgence in progressive music at the moment. The music press of late have softened their blows against this genre, which has to be a good thing! How long it will last, who knows?

Bands that are getting good press (especially in the UK) like The Mars Volta, Oceansize, Amplifier, GY!BE have breathed new life into the genre (my own personal opinion of course!)

This brings me to 'The Future kings of England' an instrumental band. I have only seen this band twice, and they seem to be quite underground at the moment. This should change with their debut EP. I received in the post yesterday and it's stunning!

The first track - "10:66" is an opus, so many ideas squeezed into it's 8 minutes. The beginning is very Floyd like with a wash of guitars leading into a violin solo which reminds me of Dirty Three, GY!BE. It then build and builds with discordant voices in panic and abruptly ends.

"October Moth" is a pretty tune on the sly before it breaks into a heavy sounding dirge,

"Lilly Lockwood" reminds me of a Saucerful of Secrets in that it really loosens up in the middle section, drums all over the place, guitar squealing to the mooon! Then back down to a mellotron choir of angels.

All-in-all fantastic and worth it's £3!!

They don't seem to be touring at the moment, but if they do, go and see them!
