Australian guitarist/vocalist/composer Mario Millo is best known in progressive circles for his work with 70's bands Sebastian Hardie and Windchase. After the demise of these bands he released two solo albums, and then a handful of film scores, which served to broaden his already highly melodic compositional skills.

With Oceans Of The Mind, Mario takes these skills one step further. Here we have the best elements of Sebastian Hardie and Windchase, fused with the emotion of his soundtrack work, resulting in what is clearly his finest work to date. A very nostalgic album, Oceans contains lyrical references to his love for what he was striving for in the 70's and how progressive music was often misunderstood. His voice is warm and full, one of the finest in all of progressive rock. The music is unique, with major 7 chords mixing with minors to give the album a fresh, summery feel. For those unfamiliar with his past works, think of place somewhere between Camel, Yes and Pendragon, and put wonderful vocals on top of it. There is nothing 'neo' about this album. It sounds more like a lost classic from 1973.

Again, Mario Millo is a very unique and emotional writer. Oceans has been known to bring a tear to many a dry eye. This, coupled with absolutely beautiful packaging made this my favorite album of 2001.
