Our Privacy Policy
(As drafted by our crack team of lawyers and marketers)

During your use of this web site, you may be required or requested to provide information to us that you entrust to us not to publicly disseminate (basically, we're talking about your e-mail address here). This is our privacy promise to you.

    1. We will never intentionally reveal your personal information to anyone, ever. And especially not for money. We hate that.

Actually, you know, we'd probably have to show it to someone if they got a court order or something. I mean, we're not that concerned about your privacy rights. We wouldn't go to jail for you or anything.

    2. Private messages and chat are not private - they can be seen by the system's administrators. Yeah that means that we can see them, but it also means that people we don't even know can see them. People like that night-shift network administrator who works at our web hosting company. He gets real bored some nights, if you get my drift. So watch it.

Pursuant to private messages and chat:

      a) We are not voyeurs.

      b) Private messages are saved in a database and are automatically deleted after 30 days of inactivity. We don't plan to read these unless they are addressed to us (and probably not even then). We're not that curious, and we respect your right to privacy. Of course, we can't speak for the bored network guys, so... Anyway, in the course of maintaining the site, it might be necessary to open some private messages. We promise not to look.

      c) Chat is not logged and is not saved in a database. Chat messages are stored temporarily in memory. Only the last 50 messages are ever in memory at any time, and these will go out of memory when the Prog Ears "application" is restarted. This can happen anywhere from several times a day to once every couple of days or so. When this happens, these messages are lost forever. While these messages are in memory, we don't really have any reason to look at them, so if we do, a) (above) is bogus.
That's our privacy policy and we're sticking to it. If we think of some more, we'll let you know.

Adendum 8/19/2002:

To be serious for a moment, we must announce that, in order to maintain a positive experience for all Progressive Ears members, we will read specific private messages and monitor specific chat sessions in order to investigate claims of abuse.
